Honiara Botanic Gardens Master Plan
A new masterplan to revive cultural and environmental site values
The Project
This EU funded Intra-ACP GCCA+ Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change and Resilience Building project is being implemented jointly by SPREP, the Pacific Community (SPC) and the University of the South Pacific (USP) as an adaptation/ecosystem-based adaptation pilots. The site is one of the last large, natural open spaces remaining within the City of Honiara and lies in a densely wooded valley near the CBD. Project challenges included working within a third world environment, COVID shutdowns, planning for climate change resilience and recommendations for future directions for the informal village within the Botanic Gardens. Rounsefell Design led the Honiara Botanic Garden Master Plan development in collaboration with the Honiara City Council (HCC), Ministry of Forestry and Research, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM),Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Solomon Water, Solomon Islands National University, University of the South Pacific (PACRES component), Ministry of Infrastructure and Development and the Botanical Garden Management Committee.
